Cambridge Who’s Who Member Adora Mitchell Bayles Publishes Four Books throughout Her Career as a Writer

cambridge-whos-who-member-adora-mitchell-baylesAdora Mitchell Bayles, a self-published author of four novels, has been a Cambridge Who’s Who member since 2008. She demonstrated a strong affinity for writing since the age of twelve, took several writing courses and even sent out a few manuscripts, but put her passion on hold and worked as a graphic designer for 26 years. It was not until Ms. Bayles attended her 50-year high school reunion that she began to take her writing more seriously. Because her hometown combined 40 years of graduating classes to make up one single reunion, she had the opportunity to hear stories from her father’s classmates about his wild adventures as an adolescent. This inspired her to write her first novel, Wagon’s South!

Wagon’s South! is the tale of three adventurous American families moving from Oklahoma to Florida in search of a better life. Ms. Bayles conducted research for the novel by looking into her own family history, using courthouse records, census lists, and interviewing friends and relatives. Shortly after the publication of Wagons South! Ms. Bayles went on to write Children of a Dark Secret, the story of a woman who escapes an abusive relationship to start a new life. Golden Siblings, which is her third novel, was inspired by Kit Carson and John Fremont, two men who were believers in “Manifest Destiny” and had explored much of the West together. The novel reveals the emotional turmoil and racial prejudices of pre-Civil War America while exploring the value of independence and the irrepressible ties of family. Her latest novel, His Fiery Equal: Tale of a Catskinner’s Daughter, shares the experience of a strong, self-directed woman learning to thrive in a man’s world in the early 1900s.

In addition to her four novels, Ms. Bayles is also the author of several short stories and poems, some of which are award winning. She was raised in Florida and currently resides in Wilton, Connecticut. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting and painting. Cambridge Who’s Who Lifetime Member Karie Purcell Supports Light the Night Walk

Cambridge Who’s Who lifetime member Karie Purcell is president of KSA Management, Inc., a personal and business management firm located in Encino, California. Ms. Purcell would like to encourage fellow Cambridge Who’s Who members to join her at the 2009 Light the Night Walk® for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Light the Night is an annual fund and awareness raising event that celebrates and commemorates lives touched by blood cancer. In particular, it raises funds for vital lifesaving research and patient services. Since 1949 the LLS mission has been to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This year the organization’s goal is to raise $1 million and there are many ways that you can help; you can register to walk individually or as part of a team, make a donation online or become a volunteer.

Cambridge Who’s Who lifetime member Karie Purcell and the KSA Management Team will be participating in the Woodland Hills, California Light the Night Walk at Warner Center Park on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009, beginning at 7:00 P.M. Refreshments, music and family-friendly entertainment will be provided. The Walk will be casual with no fitness requirements. Anyone can participate as there is no age limit and strollers, wheelchairs and well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. This walk is similar to other fundraising walks, except that participants will receive illuminated balloons, the color of which denotes what the Walk means to that person. White balloons are carried by survivors, red balloons are carried by supporters and gold balloons are carried in remembrance of a loved one lost.

The KSA Team’s goal is to raise $10,000 before October 3rd, and so they are also selling teddy bears from PlushLand.com to collect donations for the cause. The teddy bears are $10.00 each and every bear comes with its own Light the Night shirt and illuminated balloon. Additionally, the KSA Team members are hosting a benefit concert on June 26th to generate more support for Light the Night and LLS. It will take place at 6250 Forest Lawn Drive in Los Angeles from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. Tickets to the concert are $20 per person or $35 per couple. For tickets please email: Karie@KSAManagement.com. Donations will also be accepted.

To learn more about the Walk, please visit the Light the Night website and go to the KSA Management Team page once you are ready to make a donation. For more information about Ms. Purcell, please view her Cambridge Who’s Who profile: Karie Purcell.
