Dr. J. Lamah Walker Illuminates Readers About the Significance of Spirituality in Today’s Age

January 28th, 2011

Shamans of San DamianoJ. Lamah Walker, Ph.D. lives in the eastern foothills of the Sandia Mountains at an elevation of 7,000 feet, just outside Albuquerque, N.M. He recently completed, “Shamans of San Damiano,” his undertaking to illuminate readers about the significance of spirituality in today’s age. He delivers an intriguing and inspiring oral history of his explorations into his own spirituality over the past 16 years, centering on a stunning piece of art that inspired him the most: the San Damiano Cross, under which St. Francis of Assisi was praying prior to receiving divine word from the Lord to rebuild the Church.

Through his writing, Dr. Walker explores his self-coined “Age of Reality.” He argues that currently, Western society needs to come to terms with its concepts of religion, as he believes that conditions are perfect for some kind of spiritual deepening. He points to an increasing amount of people who would assert that they are “spiritual, but not religious.” He believes this is an assertion that “they no longer see any value in remaining with any part of their Christian faith,” and suggests steps they can take toward self-discovery. After reading “Shamans of San Damiano,” a Baptist minister told Dr. Walker it was one of the best takes on his theology that he had ever encountered and asked Dr. Walker to please consider writing a sequel. “I am already missing this very unique cast of characters and their spiritual mission,” he said.

Dr. Walker earned a Ph.D. from The University of Oklahoma, a Master of Education in community counseling from West Texas A&M University, a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and religion from the University of Miami, and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology with a concentration in criminology from Georgia State University. Throughout his life, he has held a number of occupations, including: credit/character investigator, retail salesman, waiter, ordained minister, real estate broker, general contractor for residential and commercial projects, psychotherapist, and writer, among others. Now 68 years old, Dr. Walker is also a long-standing HIV survivor. He enjoys spending time in two greenhouses that he designed and built, where he grows orchids and Odontoglossums. He also enjoys watching a newly planted grove of aspens grow in his backyard.

To purchase or learn more about “Shamans of San Damiano,” please visit Dr. J. Lamah Walker’s website. Additionally, be sure to check his latest tour schedule, as he regularly participates in lectures and holds book signings.

K. Patrick Bonovich Depicts the Heartwarming and Humorous Side of Health Care Professionals

January 26th, 2011

Waking Up EmilyWith more than 40 years of experience as a medical physician, Cambridge Who’s Who® member K. Patrick Bonovich, MD has built a lifelong career in patient care. He recently released his first novel, titled “Waking Up Emily: Antics and Inspirations While Patients Sleep,” which provides a fascinating depiction of the trials and tribulations of health care providers.

The novel gives a fictional account, based on the true-life observations, of a large, metropolitan hospital’s anesthesia department. Seen through the eyes of the medical staff, “Waking Up Emily” is an irreverent, heart-warming, humorous — yet often tear-jerking — description of the professional lives of doctors, nurses and paraprofessionals.

Compiled in a series of vignettes, the novel illustrates the daily activities that occur, whereby values clash, to create a professional “tug-of-war” — the end goal being successful outcomes of the lifesaving sort. “Waking Up Emily” provides readers with a glimpse into the tactics employed by those administering the services, and the lives of the people who must operate daily in this environment.

In addition to working on his third book about firemen titled, “Deadly Consequences and Convenient Heroes, Dr. Bonovich is co-authoring another publication titled, “No Weight Loss Gimmicks.” The latter explores the biological and psychological circumstances that contribute to excess weight gain and validates the need for combined long-term medication, diet and behavior modification for effective weight loss.

K. Patrick Bonovich, MD earned a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology from the University of Maryland in 1954 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1962. He was instrumental in the establishment, development and administration of Fallston General Hospital, which later became Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Dr. Bonovich also treats and administers care for inmates at a local prison.

Dr. K. Patrick Bonovich’s novel, “Waking Up Emily: Antics and Inspirations While Patients Sleep,” is available for purchase at Amazon.com.
